Umphrey's McGee and moe. join forces for a jam band encore in Grand Rapids

Umphrey's McGee and moe. reconnected on August 12 to kick off the final leg of their joint moe.mentUM Tour at Grand Rapids' Frederik Meijer Amphitheater, closing the night with a collaborative three-song encore, JamBase reported. moe. opened with a seven-song set that included two tracks from their 2025 album Circle Of Giants, "In Stride" and "Band In The Sky," before Umphrey's McGee took the stage for a run of well-jammed sequences of their own.

The joint encore began with Umphrey's McGee's debut performance of the moe. fan favorite "Plane Crash," with members of both bands sharing the stage. moe. percussionist Jim Loughlin and guitarist Al Schnier stayed on to join Umphrey's for their original song "Attachments," and the night closed with a joint cover of Genesis' "That's All." The Grand Rapids show also marked the start of lighting designer Ben Factor's final weekend with Umphrey's McGee after seven years and 500 shows on the road.

The two bands closed out the moe.mentUM Tour that Saturday, August 15, at Ravinia Festival in the Chicago area, where the collaborative streak continued with a medley of moe.'s own "Rebubula" and Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al," the second time Umphrey's McGee has ever performed the Paul Simon song live. Umphrey's guitarist Brendan Bayliss thanked moe. for the tour before the bands swapped members mid-song, with moe. keyboardist Nate Wilson playing flute throughout the Paul Simon cover.

With the moe.mentUM Tour now finished, both bands return to solo touring, closing out a run that JamBase covered from its Grand Rapids opening night through its collaborative finale at Ravinia.
