(untitled) halo have released aimee lou wood freestyle, a hazy, jerk-inflected track that opens their self-titled debut album, out 6 November via Dirty Hit. It was written out of the tension between the four of them and the sprawl of Los Angeles, and blends shoegaze, alternative rock, rap and electronic production without settling on any one of them.

The band are Jay Are, who drums and produces, Ariana Mamnoon, Jack Dione and Nicholas Noneman. They have put out two EPs since their first single in 2023, the urika's bedroom-produced limewire, and then went quiet for two years, releasing only a single track together while playing live behind bar italia, The Hellp, Alison's Halo and DIIV.

The title came from Dione, who named it after the English actress who starred in the third season of The White Lotus and who he had been watching a lot of in spring 2025. The group recorded the song that March, around the time the show was airing.

It began as something simpler. "Originally, it was just gonna be a rap song, which a lot of it still is," Mamnoon said. It grew out of a jerk beat Dione had been working on while the band were listening to xaviersobased and fakemink and playing EsDeeKid's LV Sandals every time any of them got behind the decks.

That track unlocked the method the song runs on. "It's the same sample repeating, but then it switches up just ever so slightly," Are said of the looping, and he traces the idea further back, to William Basinski's The Disintegration Loops, the ambient work built from magnetic tape audibly breaking down as it played. Repetition, for him, is a way of getting at texture and decay at the same time.

The loops here do not disintegrate so much as break down and let something through, and Mamnoon's vocal is the first thing that arrives. The single files under indie and hip-hop alongside rock, and the album's 6 November date is logged on the release calendar.
