Vince Gill will receive the Country Icon Award at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards, set for September 20 at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville.
The Josie Music Awards describes itself as the largest independent, privately owned music award show in the world, built around honoring independent artists, songwriters, legends and industry professionals rather than major-label stars. "Vince's incomparable artistry, decades of extraordinary contributions to music, and his enduring influence on generations of artists make him truly deserving of this recognition," said Tinamarie Passantino, the show's co-owner, adding that having Gill on the Opry House stage, "a place he has called home for decades," would make for an unforgettable moment.
The award ceremony caps a weekend built around the Josie Music Awards' broader mission: a JMA Music Conference runs Saturday, September 19 at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, followed by the main awards show Sunday at the Opry House. Gill's honor comes in a year when the Nashville country establishment has kept him close to the Opry stage he has played for decades.
Gill's award recognition follows a busy stretch of activity, including the recent release of his EP Eighteen Summers, the ninth installment in his year-long EP series, and comes around the same time MusicSuey reported that fellow Opry-connected artist Charlie Worsham was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry. The Country Icon honor joins a growing list of fall recognitions tracked on award watch.
