Weird Al Yankovic has pulled a piece of his own back catalogue out of storage. The singer has released Al's Brain: A 3-D Journey Through the Human Brain with "Weird Al" Yankovic, a 2009 educational short film, along with the song that went with it. Consequence reported the upload on September 1.
Yankovic declared the videos lost media no longer. Both the 11-minute short and the music video for "The Brain Song" are now on his YouTube channel, where anyone can watch them.
The reason nobody had seen them is that they were never widely released. The short and its song were made for the Orange County and Western Washington county fairs, played there, and then sat unseen and unheard.
The cast is what makes the recovery notable. Paul McCartney appears alongside Thomas Lennon, Patton Oswalt, the comedy duo Tim & Eric and Fabio, with a CGI owl voiced by Billy West of Futurama and Ren & Stimpy.
Yankovic guides the whole thing, walking viewers through how the brain works with the help of that cast, a premise that sits somewhere between a science exhibit and one of his own videos.
The recovery is listed on the release calendar and lands during a busy stretch of archive releases across pop and rock, among them the Queen Budapest concert film reaching cinemas in October and a Travis Barker documentary trailer.
