Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean say to expect new music from the Fugees

Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean reunited on stage at Hill's Diaspora Calling! festival at Milton Keynes National Bowl on August 7, playing alongside Erykah Badu, Giggs and Hill's sons YG Marley and Zion Marley, who are also the grandchildren of reggae icon Bob Marley, NME reported.

Asked by the BBC whether a new album might be coming, Jean restated the question before Hill answered simply, "Absolutely." "I'm back with my bandmate! So we're in an amazing place. I think the energy is very important," Jean said, while Hill added that the group had been through "an incredible healing process" that they now wanted to share with the world.

The Fugees are the trio of Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, who released two studio albums in the 1990s, 1994's Blunted on Reality and 1996's The Score, before splitting in 1997. They have not put out an album since, though they briefly reformed between 2004 and 2006 and reunited again in 2021 for a tour marking The Score's 25th anniversary.

Hill and Jean have continued performing together in the years since, including at Roberta Flack's memorial in 2025 and again later that year at a London show where Jean joined Hill to run through Fugees classics.

A planned 2024 US reunion tour was called off, and Pras later sued Hill for fraud, alleging the tour was sabotaged by her "arrogance" and "narcissistic tendencies" and that she padded the budget with "unnecessary and, most likely fictitious expenses." In a statement to NME, Hill called the suit "baseless" and "full of false claims and unwarranted attacks," saying it omitted that Pras had been advanced a $3 million payment toward legal fees and had failed to repay loans she had extended him.

Pras was convicted in April 2023 in connection with a billion-dollar Malaysian money-laundering scheme, a legal situation NME reported had already forced the cancellation of a planned 2022 Fugees reunion tour before the 2024 dates were scrapped as well. He was later sentenced to 14 years in prison, and said at one point that he was "done" with the Fugees.

The reunion came days after Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean opened The Score's 30th anniversary with a London fan event, and it doubled as Diaspora Calling's first stop in the UK. No date or format for the new Fugees music has been announced. MusicSuey follows more hip-hop news on the genre's page.
