Yoo Doo Right, the Montreal duo, announces fourth album with a run of Canadian tour dates

Build and Rest... arrives November 6 via Mothland, previewed by the six-minute single "Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil."

Yoo Doo Right has detailed Build and Rest..., its fourth full-length album, due November 6 via Mothland, Exclaim! reported. The record was recorded by longtime collaborator Ky Brooks at Hotel2Tango, mixed by Seth Manchester at Machine with Magnets and mastered by Amar Lal at Macro Sound, with cover art shot by Julia Bender in Ovronnaz, Switzerland.

The Montreal duo, John Talbot and Justin Colber, said the title captures the record's central idea. "Rest and build, and rest and build, and rest and build. What else is there in our stories?" they said, adding that caring for themselves and for the people around them defines both the album and their daily lives. A person's shepherd, they explained, is whatever they draw strength from, whether that's music, friends, family or the equipment they use to create.

The band described the sessions themselves as unusually joyful: they booked studio time at Hotel2Tango with no intention of finishing a record, just to lay down ideas, and ended up working 12 to 14 hour days for four straight days, getting lost, in their words, in a haze of creative fervor. Half the album came together fully formed; the other half grew out of improvisational jamming, including "Industriestrasse 9" and "Neighbours Report Their Neighbours," both written by Colber as pieces meant to help his partner sleep while he was isolated in a cabin over the winter.

The album is previewed by lead single "Doldrums, Doldrums, Eviler Than the Devil," a six-minute track accompanied by a Stacy Lee-directed video. The band called the record's mood optimistic but pensive, built around repetition and momentum rather than the anxious, "white-knuckle" energy of their earlier work, and described it as one cohesive, cinematic story meant to be heard in full.

Ahead of the November release, Yoo Doo Right will tour Canada through the fall, with stops in Calgary, Montreal, Wolfe Island, Guelph, London, Kitchener, Brantford and Windsor between August 22 and September 28. The band will then hold a dedicated album release show at Ausgang Plaza in Montreal on November 19, two weeks after Build and Rest... comes out on the release calendar under indie, closing a rollout that began with the album's first announcement months earlier.
