YSL-signed producer and rapper YUME drops her new single "Love & Tequila"

YUME, the YSL-signed producer and rapper, released a new single called "Love & Tequila" with Cash Cobain, the latest step toward her first full solo project, due out later this fall. Raised in Curacao, she started making beats at age nine and landed her first major placement at just 13, producing "Go Crazy" for Young Thug and Chris Brown. She has since produced for Drake, NLE Choppa and Thug himself, including work on "Whoopty Doo" from his album Uy Scuti.

Thug introduced her at a June show at Irving Plaza, alongside label mates diamond*, Pz' and Tezzus, jokingly calling her "our first AI artist," a joke about her hyper-polished sound that undersells how deliberate her music actually is. Asked about the comparison, YUME said she takes it in stride. "There has been so much curiosity about me, and I like that people are intrigued," she told The FADER. "At the end of the day, I'm just Yume, a real person making music, creating, and sharing my story."

Her self-produced songs lean on breathy vocal tone that shifts between her midrange and falsetto over hard-hitting 808s, blending the island riddims of her Caribbean childhood with the bounce of Atlanta trap. She's also careful about how literally fans read her lyrics: "I can write about my own experiences, but I can also tell stories about my friends," she said, pushing back on the idea that every line traces back to something that happened to her directly.

YUME is booked to join Young Thug's YSL New Generation tour in September alongside Tezzus, diamond* and iyrus, following her own busy year producing behind the scenes and building a solo hip-hop catalog. The label's recent activity has kept her name in the mix, too, after Thug publicly floated signing Quavo to YSL Records earlier this month. For now, she says she's focused on finishing the solo project heading to the release calendar this fall, calling it something she's poured her heart into.
