Olivia Rodrigo headlined her own one-off festival, Daisy Chain Fields, in Irvine, California last weekend, and the director Mary Bronstein has now hinted that a film of it may follow. Stereogum's Tom Breihan reported the tease on September 1.
Rodrigo did not play the set alone. She was joined onstage by Stevie Nicks, Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette across the headline slot, a run of guests spanning four decades of songwriting.
The rest of the bill was built the same way. Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, the Breeders, Garbage, Bikini Kill, Die Spitz and Quiet Light all played, mixing current pop headliners with acts who have been touring since the early 1990s.
The event was a benefit, and it raised $10 million for women's rights nonprofits. Melinda French Gates then announced she would double that total with a $10 million donation of her own.
A film would give the day a life beyond the field, which is the point Breihan made in his report: most people could not be there, and a movie is how the rest would see it. Nothing has been confirmed beyond Bronstein's hint, and no distributor, running time or release window has been announced.
Rodrigo built the festival herself and has had a heavily documented year, from locking in stage times so no two sets overlapped to a third album debuting at No. 1.
