Stevie Nicks and Olivia Rodrigo appear on the Practical Magic 2 soundtrack

Stevie Nicks and Olivia Rodrigo both turn up on the soundtrack to Practical Magic 2, though not together: Rodrigo's "The Cure" plays in one scene and "Landslide" in another, Rolling Stone reports.

The tip came from the film's star. Sandra Bullock reposted Rolling Stone's video of the pair's "Landslide" duet to her Instagram story with the caption "Angel voices that are part of an upcoming film," which was enough for anyone who had watched the clip to work out the rest.

That duet happened at Daisy Chain Fields, the festival Rodrigo headlined for the first time in Irvine, California. She brought out Sarah McLachlan and Alanis Morissette before Nicks, and afterwards Nicks told the crowd of 45,000 that Rodrigo "reminds me of me, when I was her age, 100 years ago."

For Nicks the placement closes a loop. "Crystal" played in the 1998 Practical Magic, and she told Rolling Stone in 2024 that she intended to phone the production and ask to be part of the music again. She got her way.

The sequel brings back Bullock and Nicole Kidman as the sister witches, with Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest returning as their aunts, and Joey King, Maisie Williams and Lee Pace joining. It opens in theatres on September 10.

Rodrigo's contribution comes from You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. She has called "The Cure" one of her favourite songs she has written, describing it as a feeling she had been trying to articulate for a long time without knowing how.

The pairing of a Fleetwood Mac song with a track by a writer four decades younger is the whole pitch of the soundtrack, and it lands squarely between the rock and pop audiences both artists already hold. Rodrigo's own year has run through a chart-topping third album, and Nicks has been teasing 2027 work with Lindsey Buckingham.
