Balu Brigada have released "BedHead", a new song from the Auckland band led by the brothers Henry and Pierre Beasley. Clash published it on August 19, 2026.
The 18 months behind it changed the pair's circumstances completely. Their debut album, Portal, became a global breakout when it arrived in 2025, and the brothers went straight into a whirlwind touring routine. Clash wrote that they kept their heads above water through it, and that those experiences are what the new song runs on.
The brothers put the subject plainly. "BedHead is about trading sleep for a dream," they said, describing an awareness of the hurts and heartaches that come from chasing a passion project and a decision that it is worth doing anyway.
They wrote it after the busiest year of their lives, and said it details the sacrifices made to relationships, sleep and home life before landing on the conclusion that they would not have it any other way.
The song sits on the release calendar with other new indie singles, among them Curiosity Shop's "About A House" and Sam Burton's "Fairweather Friend".
Clash called it a pop song with a wistful streak running under a fast tempo, and read it as a reflection on what happens once the thing you wanted actually arrives.
