Beatport parks The Block at two Breakaway festival stops

The converted shipping container gives competition winners a 45-minute set, next at Breakaway Carolina.

Beatport's mobile stage is spending this year's festival season on the Breakaway circuit. The Block, a shipping container converted into a performance stage, is booked for two US stops on the 2026 run, having opened the partnership with a takeover at Breakaway Atlanta in May and heading next to Breakaway Carolina on 25 and 26 September.

The format is the point rather than the container. Local and regional artists submit their work, a handful are selected through a competition, and the winners get a 45-minute set on The Block, sharing a bill with more established names such as DJ Susan. A 45-minute slot is long enough to be a real set rather than a showcase, which is what separates it from most artist development programmes.

The pairing makes commercial sense for both sides. Breakaway has built a reputation as one of the more accessible festival brands in the United States, expanding into cities the major promoters rarely reach and keeping ticket prices and production geared toward people going to their first few festivals. Beatport gets that audience; Breakaway gets programming rooted in the local scene it is selling itself to.

Beatport's chief brand officer Ed Hill put the reasoning plainly. "Breakaway has grown to be one of the most authentic festival brands in the country," he said, pointing to younger audiences in cities and states the platform rarely gets a chance to reach, and to building a concept that moves the needle for those communities of DJs.

The stage has a route behind it. The Block first appeared at Junction 2 Festival in the UK, then moved to Creamfields Liverpool, where more than 20 competition winners played alongside bigger acts. It crossed the Atlantic earlier this year with a debut at Miami's Winter Music Conference, which set up the wider North American push the Breakaway dates belong to.

What EDM.com does not name is which artists have been booked onto the stage for the Carolina dates, or which second stop follows Atlanta beyond it. Beatport says the stage is lined up for more global events in 2027, with details expected in the weeks ahead.

Beatport has spent the year drawing lines about what it will and will not put in front of an audience, having banned AI-generated tracks from its platform outright; a stage built to find human DJs city by city is the same argument made with a shipping container. Breakaway's own 2026 run closes with a first Houston edition. More electronic festival news sits on the festival tracker.
