Blackpink's Lisa gets a documentary, Always Lalisa, in October

Lisa will be the subject of a documentary called Always Lalisa, arriving in theatres internationally on October 12. Sue Kim directs, and the film follows the Blackpink rapper and singer through the year she stepped out on her own.

The turning point it documents is Alter Ego, her debut solo album, released early last year. She had done smaller solo work before, including the 2021 EP Lalisa, but a full-length was a different scale of undertaking, and the film captures both the pressure and what she took from it.

The scope goes past the music. Kim follows Lisa as she balances global stardom with personal developments playing out in public, across fashion, television and the personal brand she has built across those sectors.

"There have been so many moments on her journey that I think will surprise people," Kim said when production began, promising a view of her world that has not been seen. Lisa, at the time, called herself lucky to have the chance to capture the year on film and share it.

After the theatrical run the documentary streams exclusively on YouTube Premium. Tickets for IMAX screenings go on sale on September 9, and Sony Music Vision president Tom Mackay said the aim of the partnership is to reach audiences wherever they are.

The film lands under two weeks before Press Play, a six-track project out October 23 whose single "Sawadika" arrives September 3. That record digs further into her Thai roots, and in November she becomes the first K-pop artist to stage a Las Vegas residency. She marked Blackpink's tenth anniversary last month in an Instagram post thanking fans, arriving in the same stretch as bandmate Jennie's EP Fallen Angel, which keeps the group's solo run going across the pop calendar.
