Chase & Status have announced a new album, Generic Everything, due Oct. 9. The UK electronic duo, known for a string of important underground moments and a No. 1 single alongside Stormzy, opened the album era with the single "Disgruntled," featuring East London rapper J Hus and IRAH.
Generic Everything's guest list also includes Little Simz, Skrillex, Giggs, D Double E, Blanco, Col3trane, Debbie, Saam Sultan, Finesse Kid and Ledbyher. A new single, "Gone Too Far," featuring soulful vocals from Debbie, is due shortly, ahead of the album's arrival on the release calendar.
In an introductory note, the duo said the album is "about resisting the pressure to become the same as everyone else," describing the record's cube-shaped visual motif as a symbol of the pressure "where original ideas are squeezed into the same shape." They said the project pushes back against that pressure in a world "shaped by AI, algorithms and endless content."
The 10-track album includes "Tension," featuring Saam Sultan; "Carnage," featuring Little Simz; "Essa Ta Quente," featuring Skrillex; and "Timber," featuring Giggs, rounding out a guest list that spans grime, drill and dance music.
