Cledus T. Judd has signed with Reliant Talent Agency for booking representation, joining what the agency calls a growing list of comedy clients.
The move is closer to a return than a new relationship. Judd and Reliant president Steve Lassiter go back years, and Judd is a former client of the same office.
"Cledus is a long-time friend and former client of the office," Lassiter said, adding that the agency looks forward to working with him and his team as he climbs the mountain again.
Judd broke through nationally in the mid-1990s, when his parodies and outsized personality filled a comedic space that country music had always kept open for somebody. His videos became fixtures on country television.
The songs did the same work: "I Love NASCAR," "My Cellmate Thinks I'm Sexy," "How Do You Milk a Cow" and "If Shania Was Mine" pushed him past novelty-act status and into a career.
That career now runs to 12 albums plus dozens of singles and videos, and a standing reputation as country's premier musical satirist. The new booking deal is about putting that catalogue back in front of live audiences, which is a different business from the country radio one it was built in. It follows a run of Nashville agency moves, among them Jaid Joice signing with WME.
