Creditors file nearly $200,000 in claims against Tay Keith's estate in court

Two banks have filed claims worth more than $198,000 against the estate of Tay Keith, the producer whose probate case has been running since the summer. HotNewHipHop reports the filings from court documents obtained by TMZ: American Express National Bank lodged two claims this month, one for roughly $60,000 tied to a Business Platinum account and a second for about $27,000 on a separate Platinum account, while Bank of America says about $115,000 is outstanding on a 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The distinction matters. These are creditor claims presented for payment through probate, not judgments, and filing one does not establish that the full amount will be approved or paid as submitted. The court has not ruled on any of them.

They arrived because creditors were formally notified to come forward, which is the routine step in an estate of this size. A family member was appointed administrator in July, and the disclosure filed then listed bank and money market accounts, a Mercedes-Maybach, a Lamborghini and a 50 percent interest in a home in Memphis.

The rest of the estate is the part that will outlast the cars. The filing cited interests in Shadow Tequila and an engineering studio, and, more significantly for anyone tracking what happens next, Tay Keith's publishing rights, music catalog, trademarks and royalties. Those are income-producing assets that will keep generating money long after the credit card claims are settled.

There is no will. According to the probate documents Keith was unmarried, had no children and left no instructions, which means the estate is being administered under Tennessee's default rules rather than under anything he set out himself. For a producer who spent his career on the business side of publishing splits, that is a hard detail to read.

Keith, whose legal name was Brytavious Lakeith Chambers, died on 18 June at the age of 29. The Nashville medical examiner later determined the cause as the toxic effects of ketamine and mitragynine, a compound found in kratom.

Estates of this kind rarely settle quickly. Nipsey Hussle's children collected their share only years after his death, and the hip-hop catalog fights of the past year have shown how long the publishing questions can run. Keith's own work is still circulating through the records he produced, among them the Memphis catalogue that runs through BlocBoy JB's album Free Agent.
