Danielle Ponder has announced her second album, Everything Has Changed, and released a new single, Sun and Moon, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 5. It is the second song shared from the record, following the earlier single Power.
"I love that this song is upbeat but the lyrics are quite sad," Ponder said of Sun and Moon, describing the sun and moon as a symbol of two lovers who chase each other but never quite meet. She said the song's drums carry that same push and pull, and that only when they stop does its narrator realize how exhausted she is with the chase.
Everything Has Changed will be Ponder's label debut, released in partnership with Phoebe Bridgers, who also has a new album out this month and is set to take it on a tour of planetariums this fall. Ponder's own record was executive produced by Mike Elizondo and Barney Lister.
"The lawyer is going to kill me," Ponder said of her old career, "but the artist is going to save me." The Rochester-born singer left a career as an attorney in 2021 before releasing her debut R&B and soul album, Some Of Us Are Brave, the following year. "I have arrived," she added. "I'm really trying to enjoy this privilege of being a Black woman who gets to sing on earth."
Everything Has Changed is due out October 9 via Dead Oceans, and you can follow it on the release calendar.
