Phoebe Bridgers is premiering her third album, Lost Weekend, inside planetariums worldwide, in a partnership with Spotify, from Monday August 10 through the album's release on August 14. Each session pairs the album with one of two visual displays: a custom dome show by night-sky photographer Babak Tafreshi, or an immersive laser show by Laser Fantasy. All the listening events are phone- and camera-free, with devices secured in Yondr pouches on arrival.
Lost Weekend is the follow-up to Bridgers' 2020 album Punisher, previewed by lead single Lost Boys. More than 40 planetariums are taking part across the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Australia and New Zealand, with the largest concentration in the US. Bridgers has also revealed the full tracklist, which has sparked speculation that Geese frontman Cameron Winter sings under an alias credited as Son-John Johnson.
The rumour prompted its own follow-up story: Cameron Winter answers talk that he sings on a Phoebe Bridgers album. The confirmed tracklist also features Boygenius bandmates Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker, along with Christian Lee Hutson and Jack Antonoff. Beyond the planetariums, over 300 midnight release parties are set for August 13 worldwide, and Bridgers will host an exclusive Spotify listening event for top fans in New Jersey.
Later this year, the indie icon and Boygenius member tours North America, the UK and Europe behind Lost Weekend, with Alex G supporting the North American dates and Isaac Wood the UK and European ones, details in the tour guide. A no-phones rule will apply at all of the upcoming shows.
Bridgers has kept busy elsewhere around the rollout: she performed two different versions of "Lost Boys" on The Tonight Show, including an acoustic rendition, and played her first solo live show in three years in Roswell, New Mexico, where she debuted three new songs. She is also set to appear in Primetime, a new A24 film directed by Lance Oppenheim and starring Robert Pattinson, loosely based on Chris Hansen's To Catch a Predator, due in theaters September 25.
