Phoebe Bridgers releases introspective new album Lost Weekend

Phoebe Bridgers has released her third solo album, Lost Weekend, via Dead Oceans, six years after her 2020 breakthrough, Punisher. DIY reviewer Ben Tipple gave it four stars, calling it "a dense, introspective opus as complex and unpredictable as its author."

The record processes a push and pull between fame and privacy, new love, and the recent death of Bridgers' father, whose voice appears in a recording on the title track: "I know you're busy," he says, "being a rockstar takes up a lot of your time." That bittersweet tone runs through the album's unusually varied opening stretch, where standout "Kill Me" builds to a crashing crescendo and jarring stop, "Bobby" opens with what DIY calls a genuinely unnerving scream, and "The Outside" embraces unusually long pauses, leaving the more straightforward pop single "Lost Boys" as the most conventional song in the run.

Lyrically, the review says Bridgers delivers some of her most candid writing yet on the visceral pain of loss, with "Still Standing" processing her complicated relationship with her father most directly. Late-album highlight "As Above" pushes her vocals further than before, drawing comparisons in the review to 1990s grunge and to Icelandic artist Bjork.

Musically, the album bleeds ambient textures into largely instrumental interludes like "Panorama" and "Lost Parade," sitting those passages against rousing choruses and moments of introspective vulnerability. DIY describes the effect as a set of deliberate contradictions that demand real attention across the record's lengthy runtime.

Lost Weekend is out now on Dead Oceans, and Bridgers has already lined up further ways to bring it to fans, including shows inside more than 40 planetariums and small UK record store dates. The album joins the rest of the year's indie releases in the release calendar.
