Dazy gathers 24 songs on the compilation album MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2

Dazy has announced a second compilation. MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Vol. 2: 24 Songs From 2023-2026 arrives on 23 October through Lame-O Records, collecting the singles and EPs James Goodson has put out under the name over the past three years and adding seven songs nobody has heard yet.

The running order runs backwards. New material opens the record and the oldest tracks close it, which turns the collection into a reverse walk through the project rather than a chronology. Beat Change, the lead track, is out now.

Goodson has been explicit about why he works this way. He said the pace of the conventional album cycle frustrates him, and that music does not stop counting because it arrives in a different shape. "It's not that I don't like albums, but I just also think it's okay to write and release music at a different pace," he said.

The numbers behind that argument are unusual. Goodson started Dazy in 2020, quietly putting songs on Bandcamp during the first COVID summer, and has released 71 of them since. Only 12 appear on his single full length, 2022's OUTOFBODY. The first compilation, MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD: The First 24 Songs, came out in 2021, a year before Goodson turned up on Stereogum's Artist To Watch list.

He also works as a music publicist, which puts him on both sides of the process most of his peers only experience from one. The indie and power pop end of American rock is full of one person projects, and few of them are this productive.

A North American tour starts on 6 September in Oklahoma City supporting Militarie Gun, Softcult and Shady Nasty, and finishes on 15 October in Los Angeles. A tour only vinyl release, BEST OF THE BLAST: Selections From MAXIMUMBLASTSUPERLOUD Volumes 1 & 2, will be sold at the shows.
