DIIV name their new album ZIRP! and release The Fountain

DIIV have officially announced their new album, ZIRP!, due October 30 via Fantasy Recordings, and released its lead single, The Fountain. The band also confirmed 2026 tour dates: headline shows starting at The Meadows in Brooklyn on September 29, a run of US dates supporting Interpol and Basement, and stops in Europe including Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris and London and Sonic City Festival in Belgium.

ZIRP! follows 2024's Frog In Boiling Water and was produced by British producer A.G. Cook, known for his work with Charli XCX and Caroline Polachek. Cook has said he moved away from an original remix-based brief and instead became fixated on the band's live sound, insisting on recording live drums before most songs were finished and spending most of the studio time on guitar parts rather than a computer. He has described the record that resulted as a utopian, dystopian mantra meant to push the band into new territory.

The album's build-up has already produced other coverage of its own: DIIV name A.G. Cook as producer of fifth album ZIRP! covered the producer news on its own, and DIIV are also booked for Pitchfork Festival London, which added DIIV and Panda Bear to its 2026 bill.

Bassist Colin Caulfield and frontman Zachary Cole Smith have both spoken about how difficult the sessions were, describing big ambitions that strained the band's usual way of working before they settled on the finished record. Frog In Boiling Water drew a mixed three-star review from NME, which called it a quiet and impressionistic record that stopped short of feeling fully urgent; ZIRP! is due to test whether the new approach changes that read.

Cook has described ZIRP! as inspired by "Palantir, societal breakdown and streaming's endless hamster wheel." Smith struck a similarly candid note about what making the record took out of the band: "There's not a tonne of transparency about all that goes into making the sausage... it's daunting." The tour also opens in South America, with a September 27 date in Sao Paulo at Balaclava Fest before the band heads to North America and Europe.
