DIIV officially announce new album "ZIRP!"

DIIV officially announced their new album, ZIRP!, on August 6, after first teasing the record to fans the week before through a dedicated hotline number. The album, out October 30 via Fantasy, arrives with its first single, "The Fountain," and follows 2024's Frog in Boiling Water, which Under the Radar named to its Top 100 Albums list that year.

The band, made up of Andrew Bailey, Colin Caulfield, Ben Newman and frontman Zachary Cole Smith, worked with British producer A.G. Cook, known for his work with Caroline Polachek and Charli XCX. Cook said a straightforward remix approach "felt completely wrong" to him. He described becoming "obsessed with their live sound," pushing the band to record live drums before most songs were finished and to lean on guitar pedals over computer processing, before calling the eventual sound "a sort of utopian, dystopian mantra."

The announcement comes a little over a year after DIIV shared "Return of Youth," a song accompanied by a video filmed in the remains of Smith's house, which burned down during the January 2025 Los Angeles fires. That release, and the band's broader arc since 2019's Deceiver, gives ZIRP! a heavier backstory than a typical album rollout, one the band has leaned into rather than avoided in press around the new record.

ZIRP! runs eleven tracks: "The Fountain," "Kid," "When The Glow Came For Us," "Dare Me," "The Crash," "Trillions," "Us Against You," "Evangelizer," "Underground," "My Star" and "Idiot In The Sky."

DIIV mapped out an extensive tour behind the album, opening September 27 at Brazil's Balaclava Fest before North American dates that include Brooklyn's The Meadows, Buffalo's Town Ballroom and a run with Interpol through Toronto, Montreal, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit, Columbus, Chicago, Chesterfield, two Atlanta shows and Nashville, followed by a West Coast run with Basement in Los Angeles and San Francisco, before European festival dates at Pitchfork Music Festival Paris, Sonic City in Kortrijk and Pitchfork Music Festival London in November.

The rollout has moved in stages: the band first shared the album's existence and "The Fountain" as a single, then confirmed A.G. Cook as producer, and this announcement folds both into a full album reveal with dates attached.

ZIRP! is DIIV's fifth album, and its eleven-track list, together with the band's fall touring schedule, is tracked alongside the rest of the season's new rock and indie releases on the release calendar and the tour guide.
