Rapper Don Toliver's Houston show is cut short after gunman scare

Rapper Don Toliver's sold-out Toyota Center show in his hometown of Houston ended abruptly around 10:40pm on Tuesday after a man reportedly got a gun past the venue's metal detectors, AllHipHop and HotNewHipHop reported on August 12 and 13. Toliver had performed for roughly 90 minutes, working through his Octane Tour set on both the main stage and a circular stage suspended over the crowd, joining fans on the floor for tracks including "K9," "No Pole" and "Too Much Money in Here" with a mosh pit running through the night.

Toliver left the stage after performing "Kryptonite" and "Too Many Nights," and the crowd waited, some chanting his name, expecting him to return for the final three songs of his set. Instead, house lights flooded the arena and an announcer told fans the show was over and to head to the nearest exit, drawing immediate boos.

Atlantic Records said the show ended "out of an abundance of caution for the safety of fans, the artist and event staff," and confirmed a police investigation was underway. AllHipHop reported that the man who brought the gun into the Toyota Center was arrested and taken to jail.

Just before the show ended, Houston City Council Member Edward Pollard and rapper Bun B presented Toliver with a proclamation naming August 11 as Don Toliver Day in the city, with Pollard telling the crowd, "This is our own right here."
