Elton John covers Turnstile's song Seein' Stars for their versions album

Elton John has covered Turnstile's "Seein' Stars," and the result is the least surprising thing on one of the year's most surprising records. His piano sits over what was already the band's most melodic single, with singer Brendan Yates trading verses with him before the two meet on the chorus.

The track sits on Never Enough: Versions, the reimagined companion to Turnstile's Grammy-winning 2025 album Never Enough, which came out the same day. "Thank you to all these incredible artists and friends who helped make this so special," the band wrote when it landed.

The guest list around him runs a long way from adult contemporary. Hayley Williams took "Ceiling." Slayyyter and Dying Fetus each recorded their own "Birds," which is a sentence that reads like a mistake until you hear both. Four Tet took "Look Out for Me," Faye Webster took "I Care," and Panda Bear and Alex G each built a version of the album's closer, "Magic Man."

Oklou, Shabaka, Dan Deacon, Porches, Floating Points, Brandon Woody, Chanel Beads, Angel Du$t, Nourished By Time, Rod Lee, Kettama and Mustafa are on it too, along with fellow Baltimore acts who make the record read partly as a hometown project. John is the outlier in age and in scale, and that is why his contribution became the headline.

His involvement is less of a swerve than it looks. He has spent the last decade steadily attaching himself to younger acts across genres, and "Seein' Stars" gives him something to actually sing rather than a feature slot to fill.
