Turnstile have released Never Enough: Versions, a rebuilt edition of the 2025 album Never Enough. The band announced it a week earlier by publishing the guest list and almost nothing else, which left fans arguing about what a record featuring both Elton John and a death metal band could possibly be.
The answer is a mix of covers, remixes and things sitting between the two. Stereogum counted 22 separate versions of songs drawn from the original 14-track album, so some songs get two readings and others get one. Elton John took "Seein' Stars," trading verses with singer Brendan Yates before the two meet on the chorus.
The rest of the list is just as wide. Hayley Williams took "Ceiling." Slayyyter and Dying Fetus each built their own "Birds," and Metal Injection singled out the Dying Fetus version, which speeds the song up and buries it under John Gallagher's screaming. Panda Bear and Alex G both took the closer "Magic Man," Four Tet took "Look Out for Me," and Faye Webster took "I Care." Blood Orange, Julien Baker, Oklou, Shabaka, Dan Deacon, Porches, Floating Points, Angel Du$t, Nourished By Time and Mustafa are on there too.
"Thank you to all these incredible artists and friends who helped make this so special," the band wrote on social media as the record went up. It is a companion piece rather than a replacement, and it works as a map of who Turnstile actually talk to: Baltimore neighbours, hardcore peers, pop singers and one of the most decorated songwriters alive, all handed the same source material.
The release landed mid-tour. Turnstile were finishing a European run with a slot at All Points East in London the same day, followed by Rock En Seine in Paris and Meo Kalorama in Lisbon, before Bumbershoot in Seattle and the start of a Never Enough Pt. 2 run through North America that carries into Camp Flog Gnaw in November.
Never Enough: Versions is filed under rock and metal, and it sits with the rest of the autumn schedule on the release calendar. The project was first revealed when Turnstile named Elton John, Slayyyter and the rest of the guest list a week before release, and Alex G's contribution arrives in a year when he has also been scoring Jane Schoenbrun's slasher Camp Miasma.
