Fake Names have announced their third album. Punk Ruins arrives October 23 through Epitaph Records, and the lead single "Until It's Normal" is out with it.
The band is a supergroup in the literal sense rather than the marketing one. Dennis Lyxzen of Refused sings; Brian Baker, of Minor Threat and Bad Religion, and Michael Hampton, of S.O.A., Embrace and The Faith, play guitar; Johnny Temple of Girls Against Boys and Soulside plays bass. Mario Rubalcaba, of Rocket From The Crypt and OFF!, is the new drummer.
"Until It's Normal" moves between glam-tinged punk verses and a bright power pop chorus, an arrangement built from interlocking simple parts that reaches for something close to operatic without leaving street level.
Baker described a fast session. "We recorded twelve songs in five days, and all of them are on the album," he said, crediting the group's home-working setup for the time it gave them to work out parts in advance. The 12 tracks run from "Until It's Normal" through "Good Old Days," the title track and "Cover The Distance" to closer "Paradise."
The band also announced a short US tour for February 2027, seven dates in all: Brooklyn's Zone One at Elsewhere on February 18, then Washington DC's Black Cat, Philadelphia's Johnny Brendas, the Echo in Los Angeles, 7th St Entry in Minneapolis, Cobra Lounge in Chicago and El Club in Detroit on February 28. Tickets for selected shows went on sale September 2 and 3.
Bands assembled from hardcore and punk lifers keep arriving: Gatta Morta brought together players from Melvins and Butthole Surfers earlier this summer. Album dates across rock are filed on the release calendar.
