Goose spent a Wednesday night in a backyard in Boulder, Colorado, playing for University of Colorado students who had not been told they were coming. The band turned up at a house party, played seven songs, and only stopped when the set ended rather than when a police officer asked them to.
The show sat one night ahead of a sold-out Colorado run, which is what made it a preview rather than a stunt. That run includes three nights at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, plus dates at The Mishawaka in Bellevue and Dillon Amphitheater in Dillon, all three of them the kind of Centennial State rooms a jam band aims at rather than stumbles into.
With students packed into the yard, the band opened with "The Empress Of Organos", the first time that song has ever started a set. It segued into Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Green River" and back again, then moved through "Thatch" and "Yeti", which gave way to a cover of Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks".
The rarities are where the setlist earns its attention. "Pumped Up Kicks" had not been played since October 3, 2025, a gap of 60 shows. Stevie Wonder's "Boogie On Reggae Woman", which followed once the band had finished "Yeti", had not been played since February 29, 2020, making the Boulder version the first in 431 shows. Neither song is the sort of thing a band airs on a whim in front of a paying arena crowd.
Goose closed with "Animal", and it was during that song that a police officer tried to halt the performance. The band played on. The crowd, according to the account of the night, kept dancing and chanting rather than dispersing, which is roughly the outcome anyone who has watched a college town shut down a backyard show would predict.

Goose have been busy with side projects as well as their own dates. Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda recently formed the supergroup Rainbow Body with members of Dawes. Elsewhere on the same circuit, Widespread Panic have booked a Halloween run in New Orleans. The Colorado run, and its unscheduled prologue, belongs to the main band.
