Goose debuted an Andrew Bird cover on the first night of a West Coast tour

Goose opened the West Coast leg of their summer tour at the Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater in San Diego on 13 August 2026, and used the first set to debut a cover of Andrew Bird's Capsized.

The band came back from a five-week layoff without much rust. Rick Mitarotonda on guitar, Cotter Ellis on drums, Trevor Weekz on bass and Peter Anspach on everything else opened with Animal, worked through Iguana Song, and drove Drive into the new cover.

Capsized comes from Are You Serious, Bird's 2016 album, and was itself inspired by Bill Withers. Mitarotonda sang lead on it. The band played it fairly straight before tacking on a jam that put Anspach on Clavinet and let Mitarotonda build toward a peak.

The rest of the first set stretched out from there: a 17-minute Borne, then Silver Rising, closing on the fan favourite Flodown.

The second set was four songs long, which tells you what kind of four songs they were. Big Modern!, the title track of this year's album, ran 20 minutes and never finished, bleeding instead into Slow Ready. The rest of the set paired their own Thatch with the Grateful Dead's Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo, the Thatch jam mostly rock and the Half-Step wandering into electronic and metal territory before an encore of 726 closed the night.

The tour continued the following night at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and then at Frost Amphitheater in the Bay Area, with livestreams and replays of the whole summer run available through a nugs subscription.
