Halsey releases her first concert film, The Girl in the Tower

Halsey has released her first official concert film, The Girl in the Tower, a 75-minute rock show assembled from several performances on her recent European festival run. It premiered on YouTube on the fifth anniversary of her fourth album, If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power.

The film is structured rather than simply filmed. It is split into four sections, The Mother, The Maiden, The Mage and They're Raging at Me, with a set list drawn from across a 14-year career and five studio albums, and even the pop-leaning songs pushed through heavy percussion and guitars.

It opens with a voiceover about a girl in a tower who plants a garden, is poisoned by summer, and gets her power back. Fire ringed the stage as the band went into Nightmare, and The Mother section began with I Am Not a Woman, I'm a God.

Halsey stops Castle midway through to make the crowd run it again, harder. The Maiden opens with Dog Years performed with a chain leash around her throat, tethering her to the top of a staircase, before You Asked for This and Experiment on Me open circle pits. A rock arrangement of Closer follows.

The Mage section leans on the songs Rolling Stone reads as siren material: The Lighthouse, Colors, Without Me and Hurricane. The film closes on Lonely Is the Muse, from They're Raging at Me, with a lyric about being built from pieces she learned how to unscrew.

The context matters to why the film exists at all. Halsey had wanted to document the For My Last Trick Tour, built around The Great Impersonator, the record she made while dealing with a health crisis and thought might be her last. Production logistics killed that plan, and the festival footage became a different project with a different audience.

Rolling Stone frames the whole thing as a rejection of the pop-star label she carried a decade ago through Closer, Bad at Love and Without Me. She is six years past her last Top 40 hit, and the film argues for a rock reading of her catalogue instead. It follows other recent concert films including Amyl and the Sniffers' Truth Or Consequence and Cameron Winter's Carnegie Hall film. It sits between pop and rock, which is the argument.
