Jack Freeman is back with Me and You, the first song from an album called Mahogany, and he has brought a heavyweight production pair with him. Bryan-Michael Cox, a Grammy winner, produced it with the Grammy-nominated Donnie Scantz, and Freeman co-wrote it with Cox. YouKnowIGotSoul reported the release on August 27, with Jive Records handling distribution.

The bones of the track are borrowed and rebuilt. Cox chops up Glenn Lewis' Never Too Late, a record that carries its own weight with R&B listeners, and uses it as the floor for Freeman's vocal rather than as a nostalgia cue.

The writing came out of a specific loss. "Watching someone who had been a major part of my life move forward forced me to confront emotions I had not fully processed," Freeman said, describing the song as vulnerable but also aspirational, a statement of what he wants rather than a post-mortem.

Thematically it argues for shutting the world out. The song makes a case for stepping away from outside noise and expectation in order to build something lasting with one person, and Freeman credits the way Cox handled the Glenn Lewis sample with pushing the writing toward that idea.

Mahogany itself remains mostly undescribed. No release date, tracklist or feature list has been announced, and the label has said only that more information is coming. What Me and You establishes is tone: mature, unhurried and closer to a slow-burn adult R&B record than a singles play.

The song is on streaming services and download stores worldwide, with an official video on YouTube. Other soul releases this season have taken the same patient approach, from Danielle Ponder naming her second album around a new single to Rochelle Jordan opening a five-EP remix series. Dated releases sit in the release calendar, with more on the rnb-soul hub.
