Jennifer Lopez is taking her Las Vegas residency to network television. CBS and Paramount+ have announced The JLo Show: Live in Las Vegas, a two-hour concert film that premieres on CBS on 26 November at 8 p.m. eastern and Pacific before moving to streaming, with a longer cut held back as a Paramount+ exclusive.
The film was shot on one night rather than assembled across the run. Cameras captured the closing performance of the residency on 28 March, at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, at the end of twelve shows that all sold out.
The production itself is built in four acts, backed by a full orchestra, a vocal ensemble and sixteen dancers, which is a larger apparatus than most residencies carry and part of why it works as a film at all. The staging leans on narrative as much as spectacle, moving between the music, the choreography and the storytelling that links them.
The setlist runs through her catalogue in reworked arrangements, including Waiting For Tonight, Jenny From The Block, Love Don't Cost A Thing, Get Right, On The Floor and Let's Get Loud. Those are the songs the room came for, and the rebuilt versions are the argument for filming the show rather than just releasing the old recordings again.
Thanksgiving week is a deliberate slot. A pop concert special on a broadcast network over a holiday reaches an audience that would never buy a Las Vegas ticket, and a residency that sold out twelve nights is exactly the kind of property a network wants filling two hours of primetime.
Concert films have had a busy year either side of this one. Halsey put out her first, The Girl in the Tower, and Janet Jackson built a concert and film around the fortieth anniversary of Control. Lopez's is the one with a network premiere date attached, which puts it in front of the biggest audience of the three. Her latin catalogue gets a full airing in the process.
