Kacey Musgraves cancels three "Middle of Nowhere" tour dates without explanation

Country singer Kacey Musgraves canceled three dates on her "Middle Of Nowhere Tour," Saving Country Music reported: Aug. 20 at Chicago's United Center, Aug. 29 at Boston's TD Garden, and Sept. 2 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. No explanation was given for the cancellations, and no rescheduling plans have been announced.

All three dates shared something in common: each was a second show added to its market after the "Middle Of Nowhere Tour" was first announced in late April, when strong initial demand suggested room for extra nights. Chicago's original opening date was Aug. 21 before Aug. 20 was tacked on; Boston's Aug. 29 show was likewise added later, as was the Brooklyn date, which came after Musgraves's Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 shows at Madison Square Garden sold through well. "This is not a case where the popularity of Kacey Musgraves is cratering," Saving Country Music argued, framing the cancellations as a sign the extra dates were added too aggressively rather than evidence the tour itself is struggling.

The remaining shows in those same cities appear close to sold out, according to the outlet's review of ticketing data, with most of the leftover inventory limited to seats with restricted sightlines. That matters because Musgraves's arena shows are staged "in the round," with seating on all sides of the stage rather than facing a single direction, meaning a strong sellout requires filling far more of the building than a traditional end-stage arena show.

The outlet contrasted the situation with a tour it said deserved more scrutiny: the ongoing Post Malone and Jelly Roll run, which canceled multiple dates early and has continued to show visibly empty seats. Musgraves, by comparison, has built her arena-level draw largely without significant radio support, a distinction the analysis called notable even as it acknowledged her team likely overestimated demand for triple-night stands in some markets.

Musgraves previously toured arenas following 2021's "Star Crossed" and 2024's "Deeper Well," and her new album, "Middle of Nowhere," has been well received and streaming strongly since its release, even without a breakout single driving it.
