Kacey Musgraves closed the second of two sold-out nights at New York's Madison Square Garden on September 1 by bringing out Troye Sivan, who walked on 13 songs into the set for the first live performance of their 2020 collaboration "Easy."
The song first appeared on Sivan's EP In a Dream. Musgraves' vocal, along with production work by Mark Ronson, arrived on a later remix, and the two singers played a pair of friends on the run in a video directed by Bardia Zeinali. Their working relationship goes back further than that, to "Glittery" from 2019's The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show.
The Australian pop singer stuck around backstage afterwards, posting a TikTok clip of the two of them lip-syncing his recent single "She's the Best," which shares its name with the fourth album he announced earlier this year.
Musgraves referred to the death of her friend and mentor Dolly Parton during the show, but did not repeat the "9 to 5" cover she had performed at the Garden the night before.
Her run behind the album Middle of Nowhere continues in Philadelphia and has dates on the books through October 27 in Seattle, the kind of routing logged in the tour guide. Earlier in the year she called off three dates on the same tour without giving a reason.
The Garden shows landed the same week Musgraves launched the Heart of the Woods Foundation, which she said is "committed to supporting the many causes that are dear to my heart." A tie-in with Propeller is sending one winner and a guest to her October 8 concert in Austin. On a country headliner's route, two sold-out nights in that building is about as large as the room gets.
