Kaskade and Wooli have released "Hear Me Now," a melodic bass track carrying a vocal from the Dutch singer-songwriter MAXINE. It is out through Arkade, Kaskade's own label, and it pushes an eight-time Grammy-nominated house producer further into territory he only recently started working in.
The bass arc started with "A Little Bit," his dubstep debut alongside Crankdat, and Wooli is a natural next partner: heavy production with melodic flourishes running through it. MAXINE's vocal is the thread that keeps the two worlds tied together, reaching across distance and asking to be heard. "My heart is where my head should be," she sings, which sets the register for the whole record.
It is another instalment in the rollout for ORIGIN//, the album Kaskade announced during his return to Coachella this spring. That campaign has run on collaborations rather than solo tracks, each with a different vocalist and a different approach, including the official EDC Las Vegas anthem "Meet Again" with Layton Giordani and Natalie Jane.
The timing points at a specific night. Kaskade takes the album on the road this autumn with stops in Miami, Santa Monica, Austin and Brooklyn, and on September 3 he co-headlines Pacha in New York with Wooli, a hometown show for the younger producer. Each plays a solo set before closing the night together, their first back-to-back. Wooli had already ended his own EDC Las Vegas set with a remix of "Meet Again," so the pairing has been building in public.
The single is filed under electronic, and its date sits on the release calendar. Kaskade spent the summer on festival bills including the Breakaway series' first Salt Lake City edition, and heavier dance records have been a steady thread in our coverage, from Space Laces releasing Hazard Pay onward.
