Katseye and Phoebe Bridgers take the top two US album chart spots

Katseye and Phoebe Bridgers hold the top two positions on this week's US albums chart, both on the back of new releases and both setting personal records in the process.

Katseye's Wild debuts at No. 1, the group's first chart-topping album. The K-pop influenced global girl group was formed through a reality television show and follows a formula that has launched plenty of successful K-pop acts, including a business model built around physical sales.

Sales did most of the work here: Wild moved 145,000 copies in its first week, more than enough for the top spot. Streaming carried its own weight too, with three songs from the album on this week's Hot 100 and Hootie Frutti entering the top 40.

Phoebe Bridgers takes No. 2 with Lost Weekend on 83,000 copies, the biggest chart week of her career. She had reached the top five before as a member of boygenius, but as a solo artist she had never had an album crack the top 40.

The streaming numbers matter more in her case. Four songs from Lost Weekend land on the Hot 100, led by The Governor's Waltz, and NPR notes this is the first time she has entered the singles chart as a solo artist. Her previous chart appearances were all duets, with SZA, Taylor Swift and Maggie Rogers.

Elsewhere on the charts, country singer Ella Langley held the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 for a 19th week, which puts the album shake-up in context: the singles chart barely moved while the albums chart turned over at the top.
