Liz Phair puts two unreleased songs on a limited 7-inch single

Liz Phair is putting out a 7-inch that carries two recordings nobody has heard. Stereogum's Danielle Chelosky reported the vinyl on August 27, describing a limited edition rather than an open pressing, which makes it a fan item first and a release second.

One of the two is not a leftover at all. Phair wrote a theme for Lena Dunham's podcast, and that piece of music is going on the record, which turns a work-for-hire commission into a piece of her own discography.

The timing sits against her live year. Phair and Sleater-Kinney are about to take out the Flannel And The Fury tour, a pairing of two acts whose audiences overlap heavily and whose careers ran on parallel tracks through the 1990s. A merch-table 7-inch on the eve of that run is a deliberate piece of scheduling.

What the report did not carry is as clear as what it did. Stereogum gave no release date, no title for the second song, no pressing count and no word on whether either recording reaches streaming services. Anyone wanting the record is, for now, waiting on Phair's own store.
