Phoebe Bridgers fills Lost Weekend with guests, from Mike Kinsella to Alex G

Phoebe Bridgers' new album, Lost Weekend, carries a long guest list, The Line of Best Fit reported on August 14, including Mike Kinsella of American Football, Bo Burnham, Jack Antonoff, Conor Oberst and Alex G. It is her first album in six years, since 2020's Punisher.

Kinsella's part was hinted at months ago in a GQ profile ahead of American Football's LP4, when the piece described a more famous singer-songwriter sending him a song that needed a Midwest emo guitar solo. That song turned out to be Bobby, track five on Lost Weekend, and Kinsella told the GQ writer he could write the best emo album ever with the way Bridgers set the scene for him.

Kinsella told GQ he could tell right away what he was working with: "I could write the best emo album ever. It's like she wants me to do a voiceover for a story that's already written."

Other guests announced ahead of the album's release included Bridgers' boygenius bandmates Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus, and Jack Antonoff, who produced alongside Alex G. Once the album was out, further credits surfaced: Bo Burnham on vocals and lyrics on several tracks, Seattle singer-songwriter Damien Jurado as a co-lyricist, Conor Oberst on harmonica, and guitarists Greg Leisz and Blake Mills, both familiar from records by k.d. lang, Eric Clapton, Fiona Apple and Bob Dylan among others.

Alex G, who co-produced the album alongside Antonoff, released his own soundtrack work around the same time: a score for the slasher film Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, and a new song made with the Blue Nile's Paul Buchanan.
