Alex G has released a new song with Paul Buchanan of the Blue Nile, called Pain Is the Heart of Love, Pitchfork reported on August 14. It is the first taste of his soundtrack for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, a new film from director Jane Schoenbrun due in full on August 21.
It is Alex G's third collaboration with Schoenbrun, after scoring 2022's We're All Going to the World's Fair and 2024's I Saw the TV Glow. The new film follows a young director, played by Hannah Einbinder, who connects with a reclusive actress, played by Gillian Anderson, while rebooting a classic horror franchise. The soundtrack also carries songs from R.E.M., Sally Shapiro, Donna Lewis and Okay Kaya.
Buchanan has largely stayed out of the spotlight since his 2012 solo album Mid Air, though he appeared on a Jessie Ware song in 2017 and a Quiet City track in 2021.
Alex G has had a busy stretch beyond this soundtrack, having recently co-produced Phoebe Bridgers' album Lost Weekend and wrapped a North American tour, with our earlier coverage of the Camp Miasma score carrying more on the film itself, part of a strong year for indie soundtrack work.
