PISS book 23 tour dates behind their first LP, you made me / skin on linen

The Vancouver four-piece play the UK, Ontario, a North American run supporting Gilla Band, and a hometown Halloween show on release day.

PISS

PISS have set October 30 for you made me / skin on linen, the first album by the Vancouver four-piece, out through Paper Bag Records in Canada and Sub Pop everywhere else. The band signed to Sub Pop in the spring, and this is the first record of that deal.

Leading it is "time loop at hot slit", a hardcore thrasher about girlhood in a culture of sexualisation, which had already appeared in an earlier form on the band's three demos collection. The album as a whole pushes past straight punk into poetry, sound collage, performance and visual art, with intimate violence sitting at its centre.

"I have been writing about this subject matter for my whole life," bandleader and songwriter Taylor Zantingh said, describing the album and its videos as a continuation of the same pursuit. Zantingh also said the band filter every choice they make, artistic and commercial alike, through what serves the record and the audience first.

The video for the single was co-directed by Zantingh and Vivyen Sagsen at Take Yr Time Back, a Vancouver DIY room that has since shut. People who sang the earliest version of the song with the band locally appear in it taking the stage themselves.

Twenty-three shows are booked around the release. The band play the UK first, with Brighton Psych Fest and End of the Road among the dates, then Toronto's Second Summer and Kitchener's Wreckerfest in late September. A North American run supporting Gilla Band starts October 14 in Philadelphia and takes in Brooklyn, Allston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Saint Paul, Denver, Salt Lake City, Portland and Seattle.

Release day itself is a hometown show at The Pearl on Granville in Vancouver on Halloween, again with Gilla Band. Europe follows in November, with Iceland Airwaves, Pitchfork Paris, Sonic City in Kortrijk and Amsterdam's Paradiso before a London date at Moth Club on November 14. The album is 15 tracks of rock and indie writing that rarely sits still, and it is logged on the release calendar.
