PISS will release their first album on October 30. The Vancouver group have named it you made me / skin on linen, and it comes through Sub Pop, with Paper Bag Records handling Canada.
The band come out of the Vancouver underground and work by merging noise with surreal wordplay and a streak of outsider pop that keeps the songs from collapsing into pure abrasion. It is a combination that has made them one of the more talked-about Canadian acts of the year.
Ahead of the release they play a run of shows in Britain, including a date in Margate, a slot at Brighton Psych Fest and an appearance at End Of The Road Festival, where new material is expected to appear in the sets.
"time loop at hot slit" is the first song out from the record, an extra-dimensional pop song built on DIY messthetics. Its official video was co-directed by front-person Taylor Zantingh and Vivyen Sagsen at Take Yr Time Back, a Vancouver DIY space that has since closed down.
"Our local scene has been singing this song with us for two years!!" Zantingh said, adding that wherever the song ends up it will always belong to the femmes, queers and weirdos of the Vancouver underground community.
The tracklist runs 15 songs deep, opening on "kai and friends" and closing with "i keep trying to change the ending", and includes a title that is a full academic citation of a 1984 Rote Zora essay. It is a dense first rock and indie statement, and the October date is on the release calendar.
