PISS have announced their first full-length, you made me / skin on linen, and put out its lead track, "time loop at hot slit". The Vancouver noise rock band will release the record on 30 October through Sub Pop, closing off a run of demos and live shows that built their reputation at home.
The group spent months developing a live presence before this, and put a set of recordings on Bandcamp in 2024 under the title three demos. The album is their first full collection of songs, and it pulls punk together with poetry, sound collage, performance art and visual art, shifting between the personal and the political as it goes.
"time loop at hot slit" is a noise-punk track about girlhood in a culture of sexualisation. Its video was co-directed by vocalist Taylor Zantingh and Vivyen Sagsen at Take Yr Time Back, a Vancouver DIY space that has since closed. "No matter where it ends up, it will always belong to the femmes, queers, and weirdos in the Vancouver underground community," Zantingh said of the song.
The songs on the album chronicle a childhood affected by structural, systemic and intimate violence. The band use the record to examine how the effects of that violence are carried, how it shapes development, and how long a wound stays open, which is a heavier brief than most rock debuts set themselves.
PISS are also partnering with autonomous spaces and radical community hubs across North America to hand out free copies of the album, and buyers can pay a discounted rate for a second copy to be donated to one of those spaces. The band framed the plan as a push toward offline organising, arguing that a real movement cannot be built on tools owned by the powers it aims to challenge.
The tracklist runs to 15 songs, among them "kai and friends", "i wanted to be a singer", "manon on the trial of gisele pelicot" and a closing piece called "i keep trying to change the ending". One title is a full bibliographic citation of a 1984 Rote Zora essay published in the German magazine Emma. The release date is logged on the release calendar.
