Pixies are going back to Argentina. The band led by Black Francis plays Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires on Sunday 4 April 2027, with a presale for Galicia Visa customers opening at 10am on Monday 31 August through the venue's official site, and general sale starting at the same hour the following day.

It will be their fourth visit to the country. They played Luna Park in 2010, returned in 2014 for Lollapalooza Argentina, and came back in 2022 for the first edition of Primavera Sound Buenos Aires. That is a steady enough pattern to make the Movistar Arena booking read as a maintained relationship rather than a one off.

Forty years on from their founding in Boston in 1986, the group remains one of the reference points for alternative rock. The loud quiet loud structure they built out of abrasive guitars and pop melodies reshaped independent music in the 1990s and fed directly into Nirvana, Radiohead and Deftones.

The first run of the band, completed by Joey Santiago, David Lovering and original bassist Kim Deal, produced Surfer Rosa in 1988 and Doolittle in 1989. They split in 1993 over internal tensions and reunited in 2004, and the bass position has changed hands more than once since, with Emma Richardson now in the role after Paz Lenchantin's departure.

They are in an active commemorative stretch. Their ninth studio album, The Night the Zombies Came, arrived in 2024, and the four decade mark is being marked with international touring and remastered reissues of Bossanova and Trompe le Monde.

The Buenos Aires calendar has been filling out around them, with New Order booking a December date at Mandarine Park and Gorillaz, The Strokes and FKA twigs set to headline Primavera Sound Buenos Aires. The date sits with the rest of the rock itinerary on the tour guide.
