Quality Control label boss Pierre "P" Thomas is recovering from a heart attack

His daughter Journey posted a family photo and thanked God, weeks after false reports of his death circulated.

Pierre P Thomas, the co-founder of Quality Control, is recovering in hospital after a heart attack earlier in August, and his family has spent the past week correcting the record about his condition. His daughter Journey Thomas posted a family photograph on Instagram with an update for anyone following the story. "My dad is truly a miracle, and I'm so blessed to still be able to say he's here," she wrote.

The label executive is 45. Quality Control confirmed separately that he was improving day by day and asked supporters to respect his privacy. TMZ, speaking to a source described as close to him, reported at the start of that week that his health was improving steadily and that he remained hospitalised.

The updates were partly a response to something uglier. False reports that Pierre Thomas had died spread online after news of the hospitalisation broke, and his mother went to social media to end them. She said her son is not dead, that he is healing and recovering, and that she does not know who handed TMZ that story. She also claimed there was no neurological reason for the heart attack and that someone was responsible for it, a claim nobody has substantiated.

Support has come from across hip-hop since the news broke, which is a measure of how central the label he co-founded has been to the past decade of the genre. It arrives after a stretch in which he had kept a low profile and stayed focused on the company.

His most visible recent friction was a run of public spats with artists associated with the label, Young Thug among them, who has spent his own year in and out of the news over signings and label business.

MusicSuey first reported the hospitalisation when Quality Control confirmed he had been admitted. No date has been given for his release, and the family has not said more about the cause beyond what his mother posted.
