Quavo has clarified that he is not signing to Young Thug's label YSL, after a Young Thug social media post set off rumors of a signing, HotNewHipHop reported on August 8. Asked about it by a TMZ photographer at the airport, Quavo said, "We good on the label, we got artists. We looking for young artists. New gen. We came together to build the label."
When the photographer asked if that meant the two rappers had combined forces, Quavo confirmed it, saying, "Yes, we lookin' for young talent," before naming several artists tied to the effort.
Quavo and Young Thug have a long history together from Atlanta's 2010s trap scene, including the songs "Guwop" and the Travis Scott-assisted "Pick Up the Phone," one of the defining records of Thug's JEFFERY era.
Quavo put his time in hip-hop at 13 years and said reaching this point in his career has made passing opportunities to younger artists increasingly important to him, HotNewHipHop reported.
The clarification comes in an active stretch for Quavo, who also put out a new solo single produced by Pharrell Williams around the same time.
