Say Now bring in PinkPantheress to executive produce the single Met my match

Say Now have released Met my match, and the most interesting name on it is not one of the three singing.

PinkPantheress is credited as executive producer of the single, which the British trio put out on Friday 18 September. That is a different role from a feature, and a more telling one: an executive production credit means a hand in the shape and sound of the record rather than a verse dropped into it.

Say Now are Amelia Onuorah, Maddie Haynes and Yssy Salvanera, and they have been releasing what Stereogum calls crystalline pop since 2023. A three-year run of singles without a major moment is the ordinary shape of a British pop group's early career, and it is usually the point at which either a producer relationship or a sync changes the trajectory.

The rest of the credits are worth reading too. Count Baldor, Oscar Scheller and Maestro The Baker all worked on the track, which puts several distinct pop-production sensibilities in one room alongside PinkPantheress. That is a lot of names on a single by a group at this stage, and it suggests a record that was worked on rather than captured.

PinkPantheress has spent the past year moving between her own releases and other people's, including singing Stateside live with Zara Larsson for the first time. Taking an executive production credit on a developing group's single is a further step into the other side of the desk.
