Zara Larsson and PinkPantheress sang their song Stateside live for the first time

Zara Larsson brought PinkPantheress onstage during her set at All Points East in London and the two sang Stateside together for the first time. Their remix of the track had been out for close to a year by then without either of them performing it live with the other. "You guys are watching herstory being made," Larsson told the crowd, which Pitchfork reported was loud about it.

Stateside is a standout on Fancy Some More?, Larsson's album, and the version with PinkPantheress turned it into something with two centres rather than a guest verse bolted on. Nearly a year is a long gap between a release and its first performance, and it usually comes down to two touring schedules that never lined up in the same city on the same night rather than any reluctance.

For Larsson the show sat inside a bigger run. She is midway through the Midnight Sun tour, working globally, and takes it to the New York and Maryland editions of All Things Go next month. She was in Britain in August anyway, which is what made the guest spot possible at all; London is one of the few cities where both of their calendars pass through at the same time.

PinkPantheress arrived at the show with a very different year behind her. In February she won Producer of the Year at the BRITs, the youngest artist ever to take it and the first woman, an award that recognises the part of her work that gets least attention next to her singing. That result reframed her position in British pop and in the electronic end of it, and it is the context she walks onto a festival stage with now.

All Points East has been generating this kind of moment all season. Faye Webster joined Turnstile for I Care at the same festival, Nia Archives took the official afterparty, and Larsson herself had already opened for Sombr's first European festival headline set at Sziget earlier in the summer. Whether Stateside stays in either set after this is the open question. One London performance a year after the fact is a curiosity; the American dates next month are where it either becomes part of the show or goes back on the shelf.
