Sen Morimoto shares a second song, Chewing Gum, from Time Is On Your Side

Sen Morimoto has put out Chewing Gum, the second song to surface from Time Is On Your Side, the album they announced a month ago. Stereogum posted it on Monday afternoon and read it the same way it read the first one, as something written at a deliberately low temperature.

Overthinker, the lead single, arrived with the album announcement in August and was described as tranquil and introspective. Chewing Gum is filed under the same heading, which suggests a record built on restraint rather than on a single that shouts.

That is a reasonable expectation for a musician who has spent a career refusing to sit in one genre for long. Morimoto plays saxophone, raps and sings across the same records, and the run of albums under their own name has moved between jazz phrasing, soft rock arrangements and hip-hop rhythm without announcing any of the switches.

Nothing further about Time Is On Your Side is in Monday's report: no release date, no label, no tracklist and no tour. Two songs and a title is the whole of what has been made public so far, which is a slow rollout by the standards of an autumn release schedule.

When a date does appear it will go on the release calendar with the rest of the indie records we are tracking, alongside announcements like Porch Light's debut album Hush and the fifth DIIV album ZIRP!. Until then, Chewing Gum is the second and most recent piece of evidence about what the album sounds like.
