Foo Fighters brought their Take Cover Tour to Nashville's Nissan Stadium on Saturday, and in the middle of a 26-song set, frontman Dave Grohl called out actor and musician Shane West to sing The Germs' "Manimal" alongside the band's own Pat Smear, a founding guitarist of The Germs. Grohl introduced the song by recalling that the soundtrack to the punk documentary The Decline Of Western Civilization was the first punk record he ever bought, and that The Germs was on it.
"Tonight, fortunately, we have someone who was in The Germs," Grohl told the crowd, introducing West as "the other Crash Darby." The show also marked Foo Fighters' own debut at the venue, adding one more first to a night built around endings.
West starred as late Germs frontman Darby Crash in the 2008 biopic What We Do Is Secret, and fronted The Germs on tour himself between 2005 and 2009, giving him a real claim to the rock classic beyond just being a fan. The two traded the vocal with Smear backing them on guitar.
The show doubled as the end of an era for the venue itself: Saturday marked the final concert at the current Nissan Stadium, which is set to be replaced by a new building opening in February 2027, and fans withstood triple-digit heat to see it out. Foo Fighters closed the 26-song night with "Everlong" as fireworks lit up the sky, part of a run of shows that has already taken the Take Cover Tour through Toronto and is scheduled to head to Argentina next.
