Tedeschi Trucks Band brings out Lukas Nelson and Alam Khan in Berkeley

Tedeschi Trucks Band welcomed two guests during a stop on their Future Soul Tour at Berkeley's Greek Theatre on August 12, JamBase reported. Alam Khan joined the rock band on sarod for "Hold That Line" during the main set, and opener Lukas Nelson teamed with Susan Tedeschi on "A Song For You" to open the encore.

Khan, a Grammy-nominated sarod player and son of the late musician Ali Akbar Khan, had not sat in with the band since a September 2016 show at Oakland's Fox Theater. "We realized it's been way too long since we played together. We should do this more often," Tedeschi told the crowd while introducing him. The band had not performed "Hold That Line," a track from their I Am The Moon project, in 92 shows before that night.

Nelson opened the evening with an hour-long solo set that included a cover of the Grateful Dead's "Touch Of Grey," a song he had debuted live only three nights earlier in Lake Tahoe. He returned later for the duet with Tedeschi on "A Song For You," a Leon Russell cover, backed by keyboardist Gabe Dixon before the band closed the 23-song night with "I Wish I Knew (How It Would Feel To Be Free)."

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Nelson continued the tour the following night in Santa Barbara, with the collaborative streak continuing days later when the band brought out members of the Black Crowes for a Hollywood Bowl encore.

Tedeschi Trucks Band and Lukas Nelson keep the tour going together through the end of August, including stops in Grand Rapids and at Wolf Trap in Vienna, Virginia, before Nelson splits off for his own headlining dates and the band carries its Future Soul Tour into the fall, including an October run at Chicago Theatre.
