Wild Pink release new album Still Coming Down

Wild Pink have released a new album, Still Coming Down, out now via Fire Talk. Under the Radar's review calls it a continuation of the louder direction the band struck on 2024's Dulling the Horns, following the more subdued tone of 2021's ILYSM.

The album was recorded at Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville, North Carolina, a hub for the city's rootsy, noisy indie-rock scene, with the band tracking the record in a single week alongside producer and engineer Alex Farrar, who has also worked with Wednesday, MJ Lenderman and Indigo de Souza. Lenderman himself plays guitar on the record, joined by his live-band members Landon George and Xandy Chelmis, longtime Wild Pink drummer Dan Keegan, and Hand Habits' Meg Duffy.

Frontman John Ross remains the record's center of gravity, pairing keening vocal melodies with plainspoken, observational lyrics, the kind of writing Under the Radar described as "show, don't tell." Songs range from the sprawling opener "Box Store" to the fiddle-and-pedal-steel-laced "Simple" and the hard-driving "Plates Keep Spinning."

Guest musicians bring harmonica, accordion, horns, fiddle, pedal steel and extra keys into the mix across the record, layered over the band's usual wall of guitar distortion. Under the Radar's review singled out "Like Water" and "500 Is the New 250" as standout tracks and rated the album 8 out of 10.

Still Coming Down is now part of the new-album wave tracked on the release calendar, alongside the rest of the week's indie and rock releases.
