Calvin Harris has been certified by Guinness World Records for playing to the largest audience ever recorded at a solo DJ set, after an estimated 1.6 million people filled the streets of Sao Paulo on 8 February 2026. EDM.com reports the certification, and notes that the show closed the Rua da Consolacao, one of the city's main avenues.
The staging is part of why the number got that high. Harris played from the top of a carnival float that moved through the crowd rather than from a fixed stage, which is the Brazilian bloco format rather than the festival one, and Guinness described the effect as turning the city into one massive street party. He wore a Brazilian football shirt with Calvinho printed across the back.
His own reaction was posted rather than issued. "Only in Brazil!!! This was a truly insane day," Harris wrote on social media, saying he now holds the world record for largest attendance for a DJ set by a single artist.
The set was built for the occasion out of the biggest things he has. We Found Love and This Is What You Came For both went in, two songs featuring Rihanna that between them account for a decade of radio, and both of which a crowd of a million people can sing without being taught.
The certification joins several he already holds. In 2014 Guinness recognised him for placing more top 10 singles on the UK chart from one album than any other artist, after nine tracks from 18 Months reached that tier. The organisation also lists him as the highest-paid DJ for a single year, on earnings of $63 million between June 2015 and 2016.
Brazil is where these numbers keep being set. Guinness previously certified the Reveillon event on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach as the world's largest New Year's Eve celebration, anchored by a DJ set from Alok for roughly 2.5 million people. EDM.com's own account of when that happened is inconsistent, describing it in one paragraph as just over a year before the Sao Paulo show and in another as just over a month before it. What is not in dispute is that the two largest crowds a DJ has played to were both Brazilian street events rather than ticketed festivals.
Guinness has a growing DJ file. The organisation is also weighing a claim from the other end of the scale, after a five-year-old played a set at a Utah festival.
